Clean Buses | Healthy Kids

To make the air our children breathe safer and cleaner, area school districts are cooperating through the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) on the Clean Buses | Healthy Kids program. This program provides free diesel oxidation catalysts (DOCs) — which significantly reduce a school bus' overall emissions — to school districts across the region.

Although grant funds are available to purchase the DOCs, local funding is still needed. DOCs cost about $650 per bus. Area bus companies and school districts are donating time and labor to install the parts.

You can help

If you want to help reduce vehicle emissions on school grounds and in your community, you can donate to Clean Buses | Healthy Kids, learn more about starting idling-reduction campaigns at schools in your area, and connect with other groups that can provide you with more information.

(You can also visit the MARC Air Quality Program's Tips for Parents page to learn more about what steps you can take to protect your children from air pollution.)
